  1. Footnotes: Metabolic syndrome was defined using the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) criteria25: central obesity (waist circumference ≥ 90 for male and ≥ 80 for female) plus at least 2 CVRF: raised triglyceride level (≥150 mg/dL (1.7 mmol/L) or specific treatment for this lipid abnormality); reduced high density lipoprotein cholesterol (< 40 mg/dL (1.03 mmol/L) in males and < 50 mg/dL (1.29 mmol/L) in females or specific treatment for this lipid abnormality); raised blood pressure (BP) (systolic BP ≥ 130 or diastolic BP ≥ 85 mmHg, or treatment of previously diagnosed hypertension), and raised fasting plasma glucose (≥ 100 mg/dL or 5.6 mmol/L), or previously diagnosed type 2 diabetes)
  2. Chronic kidney disease: eGFR (< 60 mL/min/1.73 m2; COPD: FEV1/FVC < 0.70
  3. Neuropsychiatric illnesses: depression, psychosis, anxiety, dementia, Parkinson’s disease
  4. Significance Tests: independent sample t-tests were conducted for continuous variables, chi-square for categorical variables
