Presentation of stimuli in word teading threshold test. Above the arrow line is what is seen by the participant, and below is the actual time presentation of the items presented. Briefly, on a computer screen, a dot announcing the presentation of a noun appears for 500 milliseconds (ms), and is immediately followed by a mask, consisting of dash signs of same height and length as target noun, for 100 ms. Nouns are presented at increasing duration. After a 3 ms time lapse, a backward mask, consisting of the same dash signs is presented for 200 ms, followed by a question mark prompting a response from the participant. The target duration at which 5 out of 10 nouns are correctly read is the threshold for word recognition [15].
